In Julie’s absence, Jackie commented on colony numbers: they started with 27 but found this was too large a number for many of the activities and games, and now have an ideal 21. 8 new Beavers have started, with 13 lost to Cubs and 1 dropped out. The number of girls has dropped with the start of Rainbows and there are virtually no girls on the waiting list. The present ratio is 19 boys to 2 girls. The Beavers have
once again had an extremely busy fan-packed year. In May they learnt about
France, Italy and India, with memorable events being food tasting and
building giant models of the leaning tower of Pisa. Laxey Beavers won
the trophy at Sports Day. In June they enjoyed a village walk, and dressed
up as movie characters with some very imaginative miming. By July we were
able to spend a Lot of time outdoors enjoying many games. They made their After the holidays they returned to a very interesting visit to the Ben-my-Chree, the Beavers also learnt how to use a compass. There was an exercise evening, a Halloween party, and lots of Christmas crafts, In January there was another hard fought all-Island event, the 5-A-side football, and, once again, the trophy was Laxey’s. More recently the beavers have looked at various methods of communication, using sign language and semaphore, and visiting Manx Radio and the Post Office. Looking back, this last year has been packed with interesting activities and visits. This is all possible because of some very enthusiastic helpers who Beavers would like to thank for all their hard work and, of course, thanks to the Beavers for turning up and always being enthusiastic.
