Julie began saving
their current number is 18, all of which are boys. They welcomed 12 new
Beavers into the Colony, 13 have moved on to Laxey Cubs, 1 to Onchan and
2 girls to Brownies. They have started the new programme which offers
a greater range of badges and, since last Autumn, have covered various
themes:- cheese, following a visit to Baldrine Dairy Farm, the circus,
building a model of Laxey village from cardboard as part of the community
and road safety, China and Australia, and the Beavers have participated
in a very active personal fitness challenge night. In all, 9 Beavers have
completed enough of these activities to obtain their Discovery Challenge
Badge and most of the remaining Beavers are at least half-way through.
The Beavers collected items for a Christmas hamper for Cooil Roy residents
and helped with the gardening there over the summer. More outdoor activities
are planned and they hope to be able to complete the Outdoor Challenge
Badge for most of the Beavers by the summertime. There is always a good
turn-out for most all-Island events, including sports day, 5-a-side football
and 10 pin bowling. During the summer they attended the Governor’s
Garden Party to celebrate the Queen's Golden Julibilee. The Beavers have
recently completed a sponsored cycle ride, collecting £417.50 for
the Mighty Oak Appeal and Group funds. They were sad to lose Jackie Murphy
this year who was a wonderful helper and Treasurer but they are equally
well supported by their new helper Edwin Kinrade. In conclusion, Julie
thanked all the parents who have helped out over the year, and asked if
anyone could spare some time to help with the job of Treasurer and Beaver
Representative on the Committee.
