Annual Report 2004
Beaver Logo

Julie introduced herself as the Beaver Leader. They currently have 20 boys on their books, 8 aged 7 and 12 aged 6. During the year 8 moved on to Cubs, 2 to other colonies and only 2 did not continue with Cubs. The new programme was introduced over the last year and they started to cover a lot of badge work which the Beavers enjoy. She has awarded 9 Discovery and 8 Outdoor Challenges, and 3 have been awarded the Chief Scout’s Bronze Award which is the highest badge a Beaver can achieve. They are also doing some activity badges and have covered topics including China, Australia, health, diet and fitness, the five senses, emergency services with visits to the lifeboat and fire station, and finding out about how to keep safe. Outdoor activities include spring walks in the Laxey Glen, finding out about the Laxey wheel, walks around the village and riverside and a visit to the beach in the summer. The Beavers were represented at Civic Sunday but were unable to attend St George’s Day Parade due to the unavailability of the Leaders. They participated brilliantly in all inter-colony competitions such as football and 10 pin bowling and are looking forward to sports day. She completed her report by thanking Claire and Edwin who help every week, and all the children and parents for their enthusiastic support.
