Annual Report 2006

Cub Logo

Cubs have had a good year again, with numbers around the 30 mark all year, representing 5 sixes: Red, blue, white, green and yellow. We had a large intake of Beavers in September, and have only lost 5 Cubs during the year before they were due to leave, 3 of which were already over the age of 10½ and had been Cubs since they were 8, so we wished them well in the future. Two Cubs moved away, one to Douglas and the other to Jersey.

The programme remained badge focused throughout the year and many badges were attained by the Cubs. New badges also became available “online” on the Group Website for the Cubs to complete in their own time for submission to Kaa. Hopefully the uptake on these will increase overtime.

Last autumn Kaa arranged a night at 2nd Onchan Bunkhouse in Foxdale for the Sixers and Seconders and a day of activities for all cubs on the Sunday. Orienteering, bridge building and wide games in the dark were the main activities which were all successful. The cubs all went home very dirty but happy. We took part in the island swimming gala in Peel in March, losing to Willaston by only 1 point, with a fantastic performance from the team and great support from the parents. Island Camp was in June at Glen Lough and was a great weekend despite heavy rain on the Sunday. The Cubs again made us proud and justifiably were joint winners of the Camp Trophy. Cub Football tournament was in July and with two teams Laxey performed well, only just missing out on a place in the semi finals. King Orry Camp in July 2005 and 2006 were both at Mullen-y-Carty near Silverdale and were very successful, with more badges attained by all cubs over the two weekends.

In April I stood down as CSL due to work commitments and Huw Warrington agreed to take over. My thanks go to him for this and also to the other leaders for their support throughout the year. John Clayton and Simon Haddock have both agreed to take ACSL warrants which we are delighted by. This brings the Cub Leadership team up to 5, so should enable a really strong programme to be delivered.

Finally, I would like to remind everyone that the website has full details and photos of all activities throughout the year and for all past years, so please take time to have a look.
