Letterbox Hike (21 September 2003) |

This was our
first attempt at the Letterbox Trail. Our version of 'Letterboxing'
involved hiking from the Tholt-y-Will/Sheepfold side up to the Summit
and down to the Black Hut. The objective was to find as many ink
stamps, depicting the areas, as possible. These stamps are hidden
in ‘Letterboxes’, hence the name. There are many of
these in the hills of the Island and it has always been a popular
Scouting activity.
The Cubs met
at Brown's Cafe at 10am and were transported up to our starting
point - the Bungalow. Firstly we managed to get the Sheepfold (well
the stamp was missing actually) and also the Pack Horse Bridge.
We then climbed Snaefel, obtaining a few letterboxes around there
before sheltering from the awful weather in the cafe whilst eating
lunch. Unfortunately the rain and fog persisted and the hike had
to be abandoned with us dropping down to the Bungalow and returning
home. We will return...

Sponsored Cycle Ride - Mighty Oak Appeal (30 October 2003)
|
| During the
summer Cubs from both Packs along with the Beavers cycled up and
down the Douglas promenade cycleway to earn money for the Manx Might
Oak Appeal. We raised £1000 and got a mention in the Courier
(see below) and on the Might
Oak website.

Viking's Christmas Play (15 December 2003) |
After a term's
planning by the leaders and practice of parts on the majority of
pack meetings, we put the play on in the Laxey School Sports Hall.
The play was written by Stuart &
Debbie with help from Mark
and Nick and is based on a Manx theme,
incorporating our annual Christmas
Shoebox Appeal. View the script
or
the characters
to see who played which part. The props were made by the Cubs as
part of one of their badges with help from the leaders.
