Visit to Ronaldsway (14 January 2004) |
As part of the Air Activities
badge, the Pack visited Ronaldsway Aiport on this Wednesday. The
tour was organised by one of our parents, Laurie Sanderson, and
the Cubs got to see two planes in the hangars during maintanance.
We were also able to board one of the planes and were shown around
the cockpit of one.

| Island
Scout Super Splash (13 March 2004)
|
Our Cub Team of Alaistair T,
Duncan C, Joe M, Juan C, Caleb T and Tom B came first. We also entered
our 11 year olds, consisting of Warwick S, Philip B, John S, Callum
W, Jessica A and Alec C, in the Scout Competition and were amazed
to find that they also came first.

St. Georges’ Day Parade (25
April 2004) |
This year’s parade was in
Peel Castle. We all met
outside the Kipper Factory and paraded down to the Castle where
we had a short, enjoyable service to commemorate the Patron Saint
of Scouting. The weather was very atmospheric, with the
mist rolling in and out of the Cathedral and castle during the service.

| Annual General Meeting (28 April 2004)
|
At the end of the AGM, some
of our Cubs were presented with Nights Away badges and Global Challenges.
However Phil B, Tom B, Alec C, Joe M, John S, Warwick S, Alaistair
T and Callum W were presented with their Chief Scout's Silver Awards,
the highest Award in the Cub Section, by the Assistant Island Commissioner
(Cubs) Anne Atkinson. Well done!

| Night
at the Railway (13 May 2004) |
| As part of the
150th Anniversary of the Laxey Wheel, the Mines Railway has been
reinstalled from the old washing floors to the mine entrance opposite
the fire station at Glen Moar. Most of the track was laid last year
but had become overgrown so on Thursday night we along with King
Orry Pack met to clear back the weeds and bushes so the trains can
run. There was a decent turn out of both parents and Cubs and the
Cubs managed 'to do their bit to help' as well as see the train
actually run!

Island Cub Scout Challenge Competition (22 May 2004) |
The Island
Cub Scout Challenge Competition took place on Saturday 22nd May
at 1st Douglas Scout HQ. This consisted of a series of challenges
manned by leaders.
Our team was
Jessica A, Tom B, Alistair T, Duncan C, Juan C and Jason A. At the
end of the competition we found out that we had won. It looks like
Stuart will now have to get a bigger trophy cabinet. Well done to
our team!

Island Cub Camp (18-20 June 2004) |
Leaders: Stuart
Bridson & Nick Kinrade. Cubs:
Phil B, Tom B, Juan C, Duncan C, Daniel M, Joe T, Mark D and Caleb
T.
Friday - When
we arrived at Crossags on Friday evening the leaders were dismayed
to find that the marque which they had put up the previous evening
had fallen over and a new one was needed. On Friday evening the
Cubs did a quiz and got settled in.
Saturday started
early for most of the Cubs with the annual football at 3am. When
the leaders got up it was breakfast and then tent inspection, which
we didn't do too well with. The main part of the day consisted of
a series of five bases, including kayaking and a blind fold trail.
The Cubs went round these bases in small groups of mixed up packs.
After tea, they made sedan chairs before singing around the camp
fire. The cubs went to bed slightly earlier than the previous night
- luckily for the leaders.
Sunday - Nick
was woken up by Phil and Duncan doing a litter pick around the leader's
tents but our Pack got extra points for doing this. After a better
but awfully slow tent inspection, we watched a puppet show for Cub's
Own before the infamous Water Slide (which Stuart and Nick also
went on - or should I say were pushed down). After this the tents
were taken down and the Cubs took part in a 'wide game'. Just before
the end of the camp, the results of the best pack were announced
but unfortuantely we did not retain the trophy.

End of Term Pack Meeting - Water Games Evening (14 July 2004) |
On our final
meeting of the school year we held a Water Games Evening. Everybody
went hope wet - but not only with water - eggs and porrage were
also thrown in (quite literally).
At the start
of the meeting we invested Jonathon M and then finally we said goodbye
to George E, Philip B, Tom B, John S, Warwick S, Alec C, Alistair
T, Juan C, Duncan C, Jessica A and Callum W. We wish them luck in
the future and hope they will all join the new Scout Troop opening
in Septmeber.

Snaefell Letterbox Hike (18 July 2004) |
This hike was primarily a
chance for the Cubs who went on the previous Hike in September to
finish off the various Letterboxes but also for other Cubs to experience
the Letterbox Trail. Phil B, Tom B, Alec C, Ben K, Ryan O and Jason
A together with Stuart, Nick,
Mark and parents Edwin
Kinrade and Darrin Oldam arrived at the Bungalow at 10:30 and
hiked up to the summit of Snaefell before dropping down to the Black
Hut area. From there, we hiked up to the Verandha, dropped down
to the Snaefell Mines before heading back to the Bungalow. We managed
to find all the letterboxes we had planned to get: Snaefell - 2036,
Snaefel Mountain Railway, Snaefell Girt, Block Eary Shieldings,
Black Hut, the Verandha, Hopper's Crag and the Cycling Coasters
CSC Box. Many thanks to the two parents who came along. This
is a completed Stamp Card (apart from the Sheepfold - the stamp
is missing from the box!).

Bunkhouse Trip (1 August 2004) |
This was a day out
for the older Cubs of both packs. From the Vikings pack we had
Warwick S, Alec C, Philip B, Tom B, Duncan C, George E, Juan C,
also Austen M from King Orry and Connor C and Paul M who are ex-Cubs.
The day was held at the 2nd Onchan Scout Group Bunkhouse at Watertrough
Cottage in Foxdale. The boys were split into teams and competeted
in a series of activities including short unaccompanied hikes,
shelter building, bridge building, wide game, and a First Aid
type incident. Hopefully the Cubs gained some sort of an idea
of what Scouts is about!

Last Ever Night of the Vikings Pack (15 December 2004) |
On the last night of the
Vikings Pack, Stuart Bridson and
Martin Caley were presented with
their 5 Year Service Certificates and Nick
Kinrade was presented with his warrant. We had a fun night
of games and other such activities before Stuart himself took
down the flag for the final time. Ex Chairman and ACSL, Mark
Bradley, was also in attendance. At the end of the meeting,
Anne Atkinson (Assistant Island Commissioner for Cubs), representing
the Scout Association Isle of Man, presented Stuart, Martin and
Nick with their awards. Then acting Chairman and Treasurer Gill
Churcher along with Secretary Julia
Trace came down and presented all 5 Leaders with various gifts
on behalf of the Executive Committee and the Group as a whole.
Stuart and Debbie received engraved glasses.
