Stuart admitted having to write out a report had made him realise how much more the Cubs had done in the last year than he had thought, and briefly gave an insight. Last summer Laxey competed in its first five-a-side competition with two teams, making it through to the final only to lose to the eventual winners, Willaston. The first summer camp at the Crossags was very well attended, as was the trip to Camelot Theme Park. Laxey also attended an annual cookery competition and an excellent effort was put in by the Cubs in preparing a threecourse meal for £6. Other inter-pack competitions included the Cub Scout Challenge at Ballaugh which the Cubs enjoyed. There was also an afternoon at the Venture Centre at Maughold in which some of the Cubs thought the idea was who could get the muddiest and wettest. The intention is to hold one sponsored event each year and last year’s event was a hike up to the summit of Snaefell with some scouts and beavers which raised £455.10. The Christmas stall at the School Fair raised £50, but the best effort was a bag pack at Shoprite in Ramsey with scouts and beavers who collected £276.02 over three hours. The money raised will go towards buying equipment for the Group. Community-based events included various items of cub memorabilia being buried in the Laxey time capsule, and the Commissioners have recently allocated a part of the Rose Garden for Cubs to use for the plants they have been growing. Stuart mentioned the slight change in uniform shirt which parents may not be able to purchase until the summer, but this should not preclude Cubs from being invested and taking part in all the activities. The Pack first started in September 1999 with 17 Cubs. It is an achievement of its success that there are now 30 Cubs. This has been attained through a lot of hard work and planning, and Stuart reminded parents of the opportunities to get involved with the Pack. He ended by thanking all the parents for their support and help and especially Gary from Scouts, Frank, Martin, Tony, Pauline, Sharon and his wife Debbie without whose help Laxey Cubs would not exist.
