Stuart started by thanking the Isle of Man Lions Club for supplying the information concerning the new programme, which was released to all Scout Groups last September. So far the Cubs have completed the Communicator, Emergency Aid, Personal Safety and Road Safety badges, and are at present working towards the Air Activity Badge. The pack has been represented in the Island 5-a-side competition, the Queen's Jubilee Garden Party at Government House, Island Camp at Crossags Campsite and a Science Afternoon held in Douglas, which enabled the Cub representatives to complete their Science Badge. The Cubs have also taken part in a 10 pin bowling competition, St George's Day Parade, Laxey Fair which raised £117 for funds and, for the first time, the annual Supersplash Competition in which they came a creditable 4th place out of 13 packs. External visits have not been as prominent as in the past but the Cubs have visited Police HQ in Douglas, thanks to DC1 Bell, and the House of Keys, which was arranged by Steve Rodan. This created a lot of interest and thanks must go to Mr Rodan and the Speaker of the House, Mr Tony Brown, for giving up their time to give the Cubs an insight into the workings for the House. Following the last AGM, Stuart was delighted that Nicola, Huw and Mez have come forward to start a new Cub Pack, enabling Stuart to attain a safer and more manageable number in his Pack, currently standing at 25. The new shed has helped with equipment storage and thanks go to Mark Bradley and Chris Holland who helped lay the concrete base in School. Other activities have been a night hike and sponsored cycle ride, proceeds from which it was suggested by Debbie should be donated to the Mighty Oak Appeal. Future events include camp at Crossags, Island Camp and a 5-a-side competition. Stuart completed his report with thanks to Debbie, Martin Caley, Mark Bradley and especially Nick Kinrade who last year was presented with his Chief Scout Award and who has also steered some of the Cubs to their Global Conservation Award. He wished Pauline Golding a speedy recovery and hoped she would soon be back |
