Stuart started by unloading all the impressive trophies the Pack has won. Membership has remained fairly constant between 20 and 24, with 21 at present. With the absence of a Scout Troop, it was decided to allow the older Cubs to stay on until they finished at the Primary School, which will mean 9/10 leaving at the end of the summer term. There could be a shortfall therefore with fewer Beavers swimming up to Cubs, so numbers will need to be monitored. They have had two camps at Crossags Camp Site in Ramsey. Their own featured a range of activities including hikes and compass work and was enjoyed by all those who went. Stuart thanked all the helpers and parents who made it such a success. The Cubs who attended the all-Island Camp returned triumphant with the Best Pack and Sports Day trophies. They also took part in a five-a-side and all Island bowling competitions, and were victorious at the annual Supersplash competition, winning both the Cub and Scout sections, where the older Cubs were allowed to enter the Scout event, with thanks to all the Laxey supporters who cheered the teams along. Badgework has included Air Activities with a visit to the maintenance hangers at the airport. Three badges were worked for a same time, Artist, Entertainer and Creative Challenge Award. This took the form of putting on a very entertaining play at School, including making the props, and thanks go to all who helped. £53 was also raised in a retiring collection for Operation Christmas Child. Of late the Cubs have been working towards their Global Conservation badge, Global Challenge Award and the highest badge of all, the Chief Scout Silver Award. A joint sponsored cycle ride on Douglas Promenade raised £1,000 for the Mighty Oak and Group funds. Other activities included attempting the Letterbox trail, attending the Laxey Civic Service and St George’s Day Parade at Peel Castle. Stuart concluded with thanks to all the Cubs and parents, the Scout Association AICs, the Executive Committee, Rebecca and Sophie, and most of all to Martin, Mark, Nick and Debbie.
