St George's Day

Many thanks to the 18 Cubs, 4 Beavers and 5 Leaders who attended St George's Day today. The Cub turnout was very high and I think it was out largest contingent for some years, which is excellent. Click on the photo below to access the report and more photos.

Summer Cub Programme

Summer Term programme avaliable here.

1. Global Challenge Badge
We completed this badge in the Spring Term. However I have only had 2 from 22 returned Recycling sheets. You will not get your badge without this. Please bring this to Cubs next week.

2. St George's Day
St George's day is Scouting's National Day. It is being held on Sunday 13 April at Nivision Stadium, Onchan. All Cubs are expected to attend and those who do not attend will not be considered for events such as our termly Pack Camps. We ask all Cubs to attend 2 parades each year and this is one of them. It last for 1 hour 15 minutes and is part of being in Scouting.

3. Uniform
Scout Activity Trousers will not be compulsory in the summer term (i.e. shorts are fine). As usual, any footwear is acceptable. For the summer term we are also giving Cubs the choice of wearing either the Cub Jumper or the 1st Laxey T-Shirt. However please check the programme as for some nights, full uniform will be needed. For anyone who doesn't have a Red 1st Laxey t-shirt and would like one, please buy one here.

4. Camps
We try to organise at least 1 overnight stay per term. The spring term's stay was the Bunkhouse Trip. This terms will be the Island Camp (for the 8 oldest) and our Pack Camp. Next term we hope to organise a trip to Ardwhallin Outdoor Centre.

5. New Starters
Please wear your Beaver uniform until you are invested. Also check the New Starter's Page.

6. Scout Group Executive & AGM
Our AGM will be held shortly. All Executive Committee positions will be up for grabs. Please contact the Chairman, Nick Boon for further information.

7. Island Wide Craft Competition
Please see email to parents.

8. Subs
Subs are payable the first week back. Cheques payable to 1st Laxey Scout Group for £25 please.

9. Medical Info
Some of you have still not given me your child's medical info. If you haven't or you are a new starter please send me the following information: Doctor's name and address, Doctor's phone number and any medical conditions we should be aware of.

New Beaver Badges

The Scout Association has recently changed our Beaver Challenge Badges so they are more in line with the Programme Zones. The Friendship and Outdoor Challenges have been retained but the Discovery Challenge has been dropped. The new Challenge Badges are shown below:

Participation Badges have now replaced Joining In Badges. You receive one more for every year of your involvement in Scouting. The design of the badge has changed and now looks more colourful!

You wear all of the badges you are entitled to. For instance if you have been in Scouting for 4 years, you wear badges 1, 2, 3 and 4 (previously you would have just worn badge 4).

New Cub Badges

The Scout Association has changed some badge:

The Adventure Badge has been discontinued

Challenge Badges have been altered. There is now a Promise Challenge and a Outdoor Plus Challenge and a Community Challenge has replaced the Caring Challenge.

Cubs starting after half term

Cubs is restarting after half term on 8 November. Please meet at Laxey School at 18:25, ready for a 18:30 start. Full information can be found in the letter.

Before the start of Cubs we ask you ensure the following:

You read the current Programme.
You pay subs (reduced rate of £15 this term).
You have updated your badge details (displayed here).
Your child has full uniform (info in letter and also here).

Autumn Term

Beavers now meet on Wednesdays. The first meeting of term will be 12 September.

Cubs will begin with a parent's meeting to discuss the leadership situation. All parents are asked to attend on 13 September at 19:00 at Laxey School. Further information is here for members.

We hope to release the Cub and Beaver programmes in the near future and Subs emails will also be sent shortly. In the meantime could all Cubs please update their badges asap.

Scouting Sunrise

Scouting Sunrise was held on 1 August 2007 to celebrate the official Centenary of Scouting at sunrise. Unfortunately we had a poor turnout from Laxey but our thanks go to HenryF, JoshuaL, MaxB and VincentD who all got up in time and came to represent Laxey.

Changes for September

Both the King Orry Cub Pack and the Beaver Colony will have new Leadership teams in September. We have 4 leaders to take over from Julie and Edwin in the Beavers but require at least 2 more Cub Parents to volunteer to become warranted Assistant Cub Scout Leaders. We shall be having an emergency parent meeting to this effect. Further details to follow shortly. To volunteer to become a Cub Leade contact the acting Group Scout Leader Nicola Bowker. We also require Committee Members - for more information or to volunteer contact Chairman Nick Boon.

Meanwhile the Sixes page has been updated to reflect changes for September. Cubs have also received an email with the latest method of getting badges. To view the badges we think you have go to your My Page and to update this and claim new badges go here. We also have 3 IT badges avaliable to gain online.
